A versatile and talented linebacker, Ahmad Brooks enters his 3rd season with the 49ers after being signed off of waiv­ers in 2008 from the Cincinnati Bengals. He came into his own as a pass rush specialist, registering a career-high 6 sacks and team-tying record of 4 FFs by a linebacker.

Originally a 3rd-round selection in the 2006 supplemental draft by Cin. on 7/13/06...Waived by Cin. on 8/30/08...Claimed off waivers by SF on 8/31/08...Waived by SF on 11/29/08...Signed by SF on 12/2/08...As a re­stricted free agent, re-signed with SF on 4/2/10.

•Ahmad is no stranger to the NFL. His father, Perry Brooks, play in 92 games at DT for the Washington Redskins from 1978-84.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:


•Set a career high with 6.0 sacks in 2009.
•Along with LB Manny Lawson, set the 49ers record for most forced fumbles by a LB with 4 in 2009.

2009:
•Appeared in 14 games, registering 23 tackles while notching career highs in both sacks (6) and forced fumbles (4). Also added 8 special teams tackles.
•Made his 49ers debut at Min. (9/27) after recovering from a knee injury and registered 3 tackles.
•Notched his first sack of the season (QB Matt Schaub) at Hou. (10/25).
•Sacked QB Matt Hasselbeck at Sea. (12/6).
•Set single-game career highs in sacks (3) and FFs (2) vs. Arz. (12/14/09). It marked the first time a 49er registered 3 sacks in a game since DT Bryant Young at StL (9/16/07).
•Registered a sack and 2 FFs vs. Det. (12/27), tying him with LB Manny Law­son for the most FFs in a single season by a 49ers LB with 4.

2008:
•Inactive for the first 13 games of the season before being waived (11/29) and re-signed (12/2) by SF. Was inactive for 3 more contests and did not play at Mia. (12/14).

2007:
•Saw action in 2 games, totaling 8 tackles, 1 sack and 1 FF before suffering a season-ending groin injury in Week 2. Was inactive Games 3-8 due to injury and eventually placed on IR (11/7).
•Tallied 8 tackles, 1 sack and 1 FF vs. Bal. (9/10).
•Suffered groin injury in 1st qtr. at Cle. (9/16).

2006:
•Started Games 5-6 and 8-9 in place of injured LB Brian Simmons. When Simmons returned to starting lineup for Game 7, Brooks remained at MLB with Simmons moving to OLB.
•Made NFL debut at Pit. (9/24).
•Led team with 14 tackles at TB (10/15), followed by a team-leading 8 stops vs. Car. (10/22) to go along with his first career sack.

COLLEGE:


•Played 3 seasons at Virginia before entering NFL following his junior season. Saw action in only 6 games in 2005, missing remainder of campaign due to injuries. Played in 12 games as a sophomore and earned All-America honors with a team-high 90 tackles, which included 8 sacks. Was one of three 2004 finalists for the Butkus Award (top college linebacker). Led team with 117 tackles as a freshman.

PERSONAL:


•Attended C.D. Hylton (VA) HS, where he helped team to state titles in 1999 and 2000, and the semi-finals in 2001.
•Named USA Today’s National Defensive Player of the Year as a senior after posting 207 tackles. Also rushed for 848 yds. and 10 TDs, averaging 12.6 yds. per carry.
•Played at Hargrave (VA) Military Academy in 2002.
•Born Ahmad Brooks (3/14/84) in Fairfax, Virginia.
