Als Tochter einer britischen Innenarchitektin und eines deutschen Arztes wuchs Babette Einstmann zweisprachig auf. Nach dem Abitur 1980, einem Französischdiplom, einer Ausbildung als Theaterkauffrau am Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg und dem Studium der Publizistik in München von 1985 bis 1989 hat sie seit 1987 hauptsächlich für das ZDF als Moderatorin gearbeitet. Unter anderem moderierte sie die Knoff-Hoff-Show.
Derzeit präsentiert sie für das ZDF die drehscheibe deutschland sowie als Vertretung zeitweise Hallo Deutschland. Darüber hinaus engagiert sich die Mutter einer Tochter auch in der Stiftung Bärenherz, einer Stiftung für schwerstkranke Kinder.
