D.L. Hughley is an American actor and stand-up comedian. He is perhaps best known as the star of the ABC/UPN sitcom The Hughleys, and as one of the four comedians featured in the Spike Lee film The Original Kings of Comedy. Additionally, he has been the host of CNN's D. L. Hughley Breaks the News, a correspondent for The Jay Leno Show on NBC, and a local radio personality in New York City.

Hughley was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of Audrey and Charles Hughley, who was a Delta Air Lines maintenance worker.

He grew up in L.A.'s South Central where he was a member of the Bloods gang after getting kicked out of high school. However, he turned his life around after a cousin was shot. He quit the gang and got a job as a telemarketer for the Los Angeles Times, where he moved into management and met his wife-to-be. She was the one who convinced him to try his humor on stage. After years of club dates, he was selected by BET as the first host of "Comic View" and subsequently got additional recognition with two very adult oriented HBO specials.

Received a General Educational Development (GED) after being kicked out of high school.

Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Hughley and his wife, LaDonna, have three children: Ryan, Tyler and Kyle. Hughley has discussed his son's Asperger syndrome on several occasions.
