Jason Wright is an American football running back for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played college football at Northwestern.

Pro Career:
Originally signed with San Francisco as a rookie free agent on 4/26/04 but was waived by the 49ers following training camp on 8/31/04. Signed by Atlanta to the practice squad on 9/7/04 and was waived on 10/19/04. Re-signed to the Falcons practice squad on 10/25/04 and was signed to the active roster on 12/14/04, appearing in two games. Waived by Atlanta on 9/3/05 and signed to the Browns practice squad on 9/13/05. Signed to Cleveland’s active roster on 11/3/05 before being waived on 12/19/05. Re-signed to the Browns practice squad on 12/20/05 and signed a future/reserve free agent contract with Cleveland on 1/4/06. Signed a one-year contract extension on 2/20/07. As an unrestricted free agent, signed a two-year contract with the Cardinals on 3/16/09.

2009: In first season as a member of the Cardinals, played in all 16 regular season games and both postseason contests, contributing on special teams as well as a reserve RB and FB on offense … finished second on the team with a career-high 20 special teams tackles after registering 17 during his first five seasons (2004-08) … had a five-yard receiving TD @ Jax (9/20); marked only the second receiving TD of his career (other vs. Baltimore, 11/2/08) and fourth TD overall … registered four rushing yards on first carry as a Cardinal vs. Ind (9/27) … returned a kickoff 18 yards and totaled two special teams tackles vs. Hou (10/11) … recorded a TD reception that put AZ up 24-14 in the third quarter @ NYG (10/25); with RBs Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells also scoring TDs, it marked the first time since 10/3/04 vs. New Orleans that Arizona had three RBs score TDs in the same game … despite suffering a gruesome thumb injury in the first quarter, returned to register a team-high four special teams tackles vs. Car (11/1) … totaled a team-high three special teams tackles vs. Sea (11/15) … recorded one carry for five yards and saw some time at FB @ Det (12/20) … contributed in many phases, registered a team-high four special teams tackles as well as a season-best two receptions for 14 yards and played FB vs. StL (12/27) … for the third straight week played FB for the injured Dan Kreider (neck) and recorded one special teams tackle in the regular season finale vs. GB (1/3/10) … contributed on special teams and played some FB in first career postseason game in the Wild Card matchup vs. GB (1/10/10) … gained three yards on first career postseason rushing attempt and recorded one special teams tackle in the Divisional game @ NO (1/16/10).

2008: Appeared in 15 games for the Browns and had 23 carries for 85 yards and 22 receptions for 156 yards and his first career receiving TD … totaled five carries for 18 yards and one reception for 10 yards while also adding two special teams tackles @ Cin (9/28) … recorded three receptions for 22 yards, including a long of 17 yards @ Jax (10/26) … recorded three receptions for 22 yards and a TD vs. Bal (11/2); first career receiving TD came in the third quarter, capping an eight-play, 72-yard drive with a seven-yard TD reception that gave the team a 27-13 lead … appeared at both RB and on special teams @ Buf (11/17) but left the game in the fourth quarter with a stinger and did not return … recorded a then career-high five receptions for 40 yards @ Ten (12/7) … for the second time in three weeks, established a career-high with six receptions for 33 yards vs. Cin (12/21); also had seven carries for 30 yards … placed on injured reserve (ankle) on 12/23.

2007: Appeared in all 16 games (one start) with the Browns for the first time in his career and recorded 60 carries for a career-high 277 yards with 24 receptions for 233 yards … added three kickoff returns for 49 yards and seven special teams tackles … saw time at RB and tallied two special teams tackles vs. Cin (9/16) … appeared at RB and recorded two carries for 27 yards vs. Bal (9/30); in the second quarter had a key 15-yard run down to the Baltimore 24-yard line, resulting in a FG three plays later that gave the team a 17-3 lead … appeared at RB after starter Jamal Lewis left the game with a foot injury on the second play of the game and recorded 15 attempts for 59 yards and four receptions for 43 yards @ NE (10/7); also appeared on special teams, returning a kickoff 19 yards and recording one tackle … in his only start of the season, established a career-high with 20 carries for 59 yards and a TD while also hauling in three receptions for 39 yards vs. Mia (10/14); the rushing TD was the second of his career … totaled four carries for 19 yards with one reception for seven yards while also recording two special teams tackles @ StL (10/28) … rushed three times for 38 yards and caught three passes for 34 yards @ Cin (12/23).

2006: In his second season with the Browns, earned a roster spot during training camp and appeared in 13 games with three starts … recorded a career-high 62 carries that went for 189 yards and caught six passes for 82 yards … inactive for the regular season opener vs. NO (9/10) … appeared on special teams and recorded one special teams tackle @ Car (10/8); vs. Den (10/22); @ SD (11/5) … made his first-career start for Reuben Droughns (foot) and rushed for a career-high 74 yards on 18 carries with one reception for six yards vs. Pit (11/19) … rushed 11 times for 25 yards and caught two passes for a career-high 70 yards, including a career-long 54-yard reception vs. KC (12/3); made a key play late in the first half as he took a swing pass on third-and-10 from the Kansas City 17-yard line and shook a defender for 16 yards down to the Chiefs one-yard line, resulting in a Droughns TD on the next play to make it 14-14 at the half; in the fourth quarter, took a shovel pass 54 yards down to the Kansas City six-yard line resulting in a Steve Heiden TD reception two plays later to cut the deficit to 29-21 … started @ Bal (12/17) and had eight carries for 37 yards before suffering a knee injury that that would force him to miss the final two games … placed on injured reserve (knee) on 12/19.

2005: Began the year with Atlanta and was waived at the end of training camp … signed to the Browns practice squad where he spent seven weeks before being signed to the active roster on 11/3 … appeared in three games with 11 carries for 27 yards and a TD and added three receptions for 15 yards … made his Browns debut vs. Ten (11/6) and had eight carries for 19 yards, including his first career TD, a six-yard run; added three receptions for 15 yards … returned one kickoff 17 yards @ Pit (11/13) … after recording three carries for eight yards vs. Mia (11/20), was inactive for the following three contests @ Min (11/27); vs. Jax (12/4); @ Cin (12/11) … waived by the Browns due to injuries at the TE position and was re-signed to the practice squad where he finished the season.

2004: After signing to the Falcons practice squad on 9/7, spent 12 weeks there before being signed to the active roster on 12/14 … made his NFL debut vs. Car (12/18) and had two carries for two yards … added one rush for eight yards @ NO (12/26) … inactive for the regular season finale and two playoff games.

College:
Finished his career as the fourth all-time leading rusher with 2,625 yards, third all-time in all-purpose yards with 4,030 and fourth all-time in scoring with 210 points at Northwestern … in his career, rushed for 2,625 yards and 32 TDs on 487 carries (5.4 avg.) and added 577 yards and two TDs on 54 receptions (10.7 avg.) … also had 828 yards with one TD on 31 kickoff returns … became the only player in school history to rush for four TDs in a game on three separate occasions in one season and the third player to record a pair of 1,000-yard rushing seasons in school history.

Personal: Full name Jason Gomillion Wright … lettered in football and track at Diamond Bar (CA) High School where he finished his prep career with 4,268 yards on 519 carries and 357 yards on 36 receptions with 58 total TDs … two-time first-team Academic All-America selection at Northwestern where he was a double-major in Psychology and Pre-Medicine … scored in the 92nd percentile on the MCAT exam in the fall of 2003 … spent the 2010 offseason as an intern at Arizona State University … along with his wife, Tiffany, were passionate supporters of urban education and development initiatives around the Cleveland area during his time with the Browns … the couple is active in ministry at their church in Mesa/Apache Junction.
