Jon Corto life and biography

Jon Corto is an American football linebacker for the Buffalo Bills. He was originally signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He played college football at Sacred Heart.

PRO: Signed as a reserve future signing on January 3, 2008 … Spent three weeks on Buffalo’s practice squad in 2007 … originally joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent on May 16, 2007.

2009:
* at CLE (10/11) Posted his first career defensive NFL tackles as he recorded two total tackles. Was inserted into the team’s line-up when Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Buggs both left the game due to injuries.
* at NYJ (10/18) Posted one special teams tackle and played a key role in holding the Jets punt return unit to a 0.3 average and the kick return unit to a 19.0 average.
* at CAR (10/25) Played a key role on special teams coverage units as the Bills held Carolina’s punt return unit to a 2.0 average and Carolina’s kick return unit to a 11.3 average.
* vs. MIA (11/29) Led the team with two special teams tackles.
* at KC (12/13) Saw action on special teams. Helped coverage units hold Kansas City to zero punt return yards and an average of 17.4 yards on kick returns.
* vs. IND (1/3) Earned his first career start and totaled eight tackles. Added one tackle on special teams.

2008:
* One of the team leaders on Buffalo’s special teams unit – the unit finished as the No. 1 special teams unit in the NFL according to the Dallas Morning News rankings
* Forced a fumble in the third quarter on kickoff coverage in NFL debut vs. Sea. (9/7), recovered by K Rian Lindell… takeaway led to a touchdown on the next play, giving Buffalo a 34-10 lead
* Vs. SF (11/30), recovered a squib kick and gave the Buffalo offense possession in 49er territory

COLLEGE:

Earned All-American honors as well as first-team All-Northeast Conference accolades in ’06…named to the Football Gazette Pre-Season All-America Team in ‘06…finished his career at SHU as the program's second all-time leading tackler with 300 tackles over four years… as a senior, led the team with 104 tackles, 54 solo, ranking second in the conference…averaged 9.5 tackles a game with 4.5 sacks and 11.0 tackles for loss on the year … as a junior, led the Pioneers in tackles with a career-high 100 in 10 starts…had a team-high 7 ½ sacks, two interceptions and seven pass breakups … as a sophomore, made the switch from safety to linebacker…started all 10 games and led the team in tackles with 74…had three QB sacks, two fumble recoveries and a pair of interceptions. … played in eight games as a freshman…finished the year with 22 tackles, including 15 solo stops…tied for the team lead with three forced fumbles. … Also played two seasons of men’s lacrosse for the Pioneers…Majored in business.

PERSONAL:

Attended Orchard Park High School where he lettered in football and lacrosse…played football for coach Gene Tundo…was captain of both teams his senior year…was named All-American in lax and All-State in football…son of Dominic and Peggy Corto...has one brother, Nick.

COMMUNITY: A native of Western New York, Jon volunteers and makes appearances on a regular basis throughout the community. Jon has been heavily involved in the Buffalo Bills “Play 60” Challenge sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and the American Heart Association. Jon encouraged physical activity among children as an active member in the program. Jon helped to introduce the program in a kickoff celebration for over 1,700 students in the Buffalo Public Schools. At the celebration he participated in a “Play 60” themed trivia show and also shared health and fitness tips with the group of 3rd – 6th grade students.

In 2009, Jon participated in the annual Stone’s Buddies Tree Lighting Holiday Party. The party was held at the Hyatt in Downtown Buffalo where the kids decorated gingerbread houses, sang carols and watched the tree lighting ceremony.

In addition to numerous school and community visits, Jon also showed his support of the community by making an appearance at the Buffalo Bills and American Red Cross Blood Drive and the NFL Grassroots Grant announcement at Riverside Park in Buffalo.
