Lucimar Ferreira da Silva (born 8 May 1978), commonly known as Lúcio, is a Brazilian football defender who currently plays for Italian Serie A club Internazionale and the Brazilian national team, of which he is the captain. He is a strong defender with a good aerial play, which adds presence in the attack.

Lúcio began his professional career in 1997, in one of Brazil's great teams, Internacional. After three years in the club, he moved to Europe to play for Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he reached the 2002 Champions League final against Real Madrid of Spain. Real Madrid won the game with the score of 2–1. In 2004 he arrived at Bayern Munich, where he won three Bundesligas and one German Cup title. Since coach Louis Van Gaal didn't have a place for him at Bayern, he decided to search for a new team. He moved to Inter Milan in the summer of 2009.

With more than 70 games played for his country's national team, in which he is the current captain, Lucio is one of the great leaders of the Brazilian squad. Born in Brasilia, he cut his teeth at the Guará Futebol Clube, and after one season he graduated to one of Brazil's great teams, Inter.

From there he made the jump to Europe to play for Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he reached the Champions League final in 2002. In 2004 he arrived at Bayern Munich, where he spent the best years of his career, winning three Bundesligas and one German Cup title. With Brazil he has accumulated a number of significant accomplishments, winning 2002 World Cup, and the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Since coach Louis Van Gaal didn't have a place for him at Bayern, he decided to search for new horizons. Inter Milan were the chosen team, and he was transferred there at the request coach Jose Mourinho.

Strengths: Firmness in his role as a defender and good aerial play, which adds presence in the attack.
Weaknesses: Perhaps too often, he will overlook his defensive role to run and help the attack.

Career high: Scored the winning goal against the United States in the final of the 2009 Confederations Cup.
Career low: His first season at Bayer Leverkusen had plenty of ups-and-downs.

Style: A defender with personality, a talker within the group.

Trivia: In the 2002 World Cup he was, along his countrymen Marcos and Cafú, one of the three players who participated in every minute of the 630-minute tournament.

Quotes: "He is a complete player and very strong when marking players. He has a great sense of anticipation. He is strong with his head and he is a super player." Inter Milan legend Alessandro Altobelli.

Soccernet says: Has a lot of experience, and provides security to a defense that is very solid, starting with Julio Cesar in the goal line. With Juan, his defensive partner, he has played for a long time, and they know each other very well indeed. South Africa 2010 will be his third World Cup.
