Linda Cardellini is an American television and film actress. She is best known for her roles as high school student Lindsay Weir on Freaks and Geeks, as Velma Dinkley in the live-action Scooby-Doo films, and as Samantha Taggart on ER.

Cardellini was born in Redwood City, California, the daughter of Lorraine (née Hernan) and Wayne David Cardellini. She made her first public appearance at age 10, when she sang in a school play. After the performance, she acted in several school productions and started attending drama lessons. She graduated from nearby Mountain View's Catholic St. Francis High School in 1993, and moved to Los Angeles, seeking roles in television and film.

She began landing small roles on television in the late 90s and her career progressed into larger roles in film and on TV. She was in Good Burger (1997) (Carmen Electra) and Strangeland (1998) (Amy Smart) before she was cast in "Freaks and Geeks". Despite having a loyal fanbase, Freeks was cancelled and she went on to do Legally Blonde (2001), Scooby-Doo (2002), Grandma's Boy (2006), American Gun (2005), and Brokeback Mountain (2005). She has been a cast member on "ER" since 2003.
