Mark Harmon is an American television and film actor currently portraying the leading role of Leroy Gibbs in the hit CBS TV drama NCIS. He has been a part of the show since 2003, when it initially aired. Prior to NCIS Harmon could be seen in shows like The West Wing, Chicago Hope and St. Elsewhere. He could also be seen in movies like Chasing Liberty, Freaky Friday, Magic in the Water, Wyatt Earp and Natural Born Killers. His first acting experiences were on the shows Adam-12 and Emergency! in 1975.

After attending Los Angeles Pierce College as a student and quarterback, Harmon transferred to UCLA and, following in his father's athletic footsteps, was the starting quarterback for the UCLA Bruins in 1972 and 1973. He was also awarded the National Football Foundation Award for All-Round Excellence in 1973.Harmon is married to actress Pam Dawber, with whom he has two sons: Sean Thomas Harmon (born April 26, 1988) and Tyrone "Ty" Christian Harmon (born June 25, 1992).

He portrayed doctors in two previous series, Dr. Jack McNeil on Chicago Hope and Dr. Bobby Caldwell on St. Elsewhere. In a limited engagement on Moonlighting, Harmon, along with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis, helped create one of the hottest television triangles in recent memory. He also played Morgan Fairchild's unfaithful husband on Flamingo Road.One of his more famous movie roles was as Mr. Freddy Shoop in Summer School. He has also portrayed serial killer Ted Bundy in the telemovie The Deliberate Stranger (1986).
