Patrick Chung life and biography

Patrick Chung is an American football safety for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oregon.

* Was dominant in his return to action after missing two games with an injury, leading the team with 10 tackles and one special teams tackle and recording one pass defensed against the Steelers (11/14).
* Was inactive against the Vikings (10/31) and Browns (11/7) due to injury.
* Recorded one tackle in a start against the Chargers (10/24).
* Started his fifth straight game and made eight tackles.
* Recorded his first blocked punt and blocked field goal against the Dolphins in Miami (10/4). Chung blocked a second half punt to give the Patriots a first down at the Miami 15-yard line to set up a 12-yard TD run by BenJarvus Green-Ellis. It was the first blocked punt by a Patriot since Kelley Washington vs. NY Jets (12/16/07). He also blocked a 53-yard field goal attempt in the fourth quarter that was recovered and returned for a touchdown by Kyle Arrington. It was the first blocked field goal for the Patriots since Richard Seymour had vs. Chicago (11/26/06). The last player to block a punt and a field goal in the same game was Houston's Ramon Walker vs. New England (11/23/03).

* Recorded his first interception in the Patriots 59-0 victory vs. Tennessee (10/8), picking off a Vince Young pass in the fourth quarter.
* Registered his first career sack at Tampa Bay (1/25) in the Patriots 35-7 win at London's Wembley Stadium. Dropped Josh Johnson for a 5-yard loss in the second quarter.
* Made his first start at Indianapolis (11/15) in a nickel defense.
* Played as a reserve in the postseason game vs. Baltimore (1/10), but did not have any tackles.

College

* As the heart of the Oregon defense, the four-year starter and two-time first-team all-conference honoree continued his role as the defensive quarterback despite altering his responsibilities from rover to more of a free safety as a senior in 2008.
* Started in all 51 games he appeared at Oregon.
* His 384 career tackles at Oregon are tops among non-linebackers and ranks fourth on the Ducks' all-time list.

* Attended Rancho Cucamonga High School and excelled at wide receiver and free safety.

* Patrick's mother, Sophia George, was a recording artist in Jamaica. Her hit single, ëGirlie, Girlie' - a traditional reggae song, topped the charts in 1985.
* A native of Jamaica, Chung has a Jamaican flag that he hangs in his locker to remind him of the importance of his family's heritage.
