Prabhu Ganesan is a Tamil film actor and film producer. Known as the youngest son of legendary Tamil actor Dr. Sivaji Ganesan, thus being titled as "Ilaya Thilagam", he starred in several acclaimed Tamil language films during the 1980s and 1990s, also co-starring with his father. Recently, he has appeared in several successful films in supporting roles.

A native of Tamil Nadu, Prabhu was the born was born on December 31, 1956 to Sivaji and Kamala Ganesan. He has an elder brother Ramkumar Ganesan who is a film producer, and two sisters, Shanthi and Thenmozhi. He did his schooling at Bishop Cotton Boys' School in Bangalore. He later pursued a BA in History at Loyola College, Chennai. He was active in sports. He dropped out from Loyola in his second year. He married Punitha in 1981. They have a son Vikram Prabhu and a daughter Aishwarya Prabhu. After making his debut in the film Sangili in 1982, he has acted in over 150 films. In the beginning, Ganesan frequently appeared alongside other actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, and his father Sivaji Ganesan He received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor in 1991 for Chinna Thambi. He appeared in Suyamvaram, which was shot with in 24 hours with in extensive cast. He appeared alongside Rajinikanth in Guru Sishyan, Chandramukhi in 2005, and in Vetri Vizha and Vasool Raja MBBS with Kamal Haasan. He also acted with Mammootty and Mohanlal.

Prabhu Ganesan first appeared as the lead hero in 1982 release Sangili' followed by several successful films like Kozhi Koovuthu', Ezhuthatha Sattangal' and ‘Anand'. He appeared in significant role in Vetri Vizha' and My Dear Marthandan'alongside Kamal Hassan, Guru Sishyan', Dharmathin Thalaivan', Mannan' alongside Rajnikanth and Kalapani' alongside Mohanlal. Prabhu Ganesan also starred in the 1999 Guinness World Record-winning Tamil film Suyamvaram' directed by a host of directors. The film is considered a milestone in the history of Indian film industry as it starred the maximum number of stars including Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan and Prabhu Deva, among others. Moreover the film was completed in mere 23 hours, from shooting to editing; it is the first full length feature film to be completed in such short time period.

Prabhu Ganesan received the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actor for his exemplary performance in the 2002 Tamil blockbuster Charlie Chaplin' also starring Prabhudeva, Abhirami, Gayathri Raghuraman and Livingston. The mega hit comedy was later remade in Hindi as No Entry' starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu. It was also made in Telugu and Malayalam as Pellam Oorelithe' and Happy Husbands' respectively.

Prabhu was next seen alongside Kamal Haasan, Sneha, Jayasurya and Prakash Raj in Saran's mega hit Vasool Raja MBBS'. The film was the remake of Bollywood blockbuster Munnabhai MBBS' starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Sunil Dutt, Gracy Singh and Boman Irani. The success of Vasool Raja MBBS' was followed by the box office hit Chandramukhi' directed by P Vasu. The paranormal thriller-comedy film starred Jyothika Saravanan, Rajinikanth, Prabhu Ganesan, Nayantara and Vadivelu. It was the remake of Malayalam movie Manichithrathazhu' and was later made in Hindi as Bhool Bhulaiya' starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiny Ahuja and Ameesha Patel.

Prabhu Ganesan starred in his home production Aasal' co-starring Ajith Kumar, Sameera Reddy and Bhavana. His latest release Raavanan' was premiered in London and received huge critical acclaim. Directed by Mani Ratnam, Raavanan' features Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Karthik, Prabhu and Priyamani. Its Hindi version titled Raavan' features Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram in lead roles. The film was simultaneously released in Telugu as Villain'. Prabhu is currently filming for Tamil films Thillalangadi' and Thambikottai',Boss' in Kannada and Best of Luck' in Malayalam.
