Sir Alexander Chapman "Alex" Ferguson, popularly known as Sir Alex or Fergie is a Scottish football manager and former player, currently managing Manchester United, where he has been in charge since 1986.

He began playing with Queens Park Rangers (1958–68) before joining a number of Scottish clubs. As a manager (from 1974), he had success with Aberdeen (1978–86), including the European Cup Winners' Cup (1983), the Super Cup (1983), the Scottish FA Cup four times, and the League Cup (1985). He then took over at Manchester United (1986– ), in the 1998–9 season leading his team to the treble of the Premier League championship, the FA Cup, and the European Cup - the first manager of a British side to achieve this feat.

In 2003 he received the Manager of the Decade award, presented by the FA Premier League to mark the first 10 years of the Premiership, and in 2004 marked his 1000th game in charge. He celebrated 20 years as manager of the club in November 2006. He was knighted in 1999.

Ferguson lives in Wilmslow, Cheshire, with his wife, Cathy Ferguson, Lady Ferguson (née Holding). They married in 1966 and have three sons: Mark (born 1968) and twins (born 1972) Darren, current manager of Peterborough United and former manager of Preston North End, and Jason, who runs an events management company.

In 1998, Ferguson was named in a list of the biggest private financial donors to the Labour Party. He is also a lifelong Labour voter.
