Born to Suresh Oberoi and Yashodra Oberoi, Vivek had the traits of being an actor, right from the very start. A versatile actor, he launched himself in Bollywood with the movie ‘Company’. Receiving phenomenal success with his very first movie provided him the best platform any actor could ask for. Right from his debut and till date, Vivek has done movies of different genres, ranging from thrillers to romantic dramas to comedies. Who can forget his latest role, that of a gangster, in ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, which earned him rave reviews!

Vivek Oberoi was born on September 3, 1976, in Hyderabad. He is the son of Bollywood actor Suresh Oberoi and his wife - Yashodara Oberoi. He received education, both in India and abroad. After completing his education from Mayo College of Ajmer, he enrolled at Mithibai College of Mumbai. Vivek was spotted by the Director of New York University, in an actor's workshop in London. He convinced Vivek to pursue a Master's degree in acting, from New York University. The actors also did some scriptwriting, before plunging into acting.

Career

Vivek Oberoi started his film career, not with the stereotype lover-boy image, but with a character that had shades of grey. His debut movie was Ram Gopal Varma's 'Company' which turned out to be a critically-acclaimed hit. The movie won him two Filmfare Awards - for Best debut and Best Supporting Actor. It also gave just the right start which to his acting career. Vivek was then seen in action-packed movies, like 'Road' and 'Dum'.

After that, Vivek tried his hand at the genre of romance and proved his mettle in that area as well. 'Saathiya', in which he was cast opposite Rani Mukherjee, won critical acclaim and was turned out to be commercially successful. Vivek has had a stint with comedy as well. He first did 'Masti', which was a hit at the box office and won great accolades for the actor. Then, he was seen in another rib-tickler, 'Deewane Hue Pagal'.

After indulging in the genre of romance and comedy, he once again donned the garb of a gangster - Maya Dolas, in 'Shootout At Lokhandwala'. The movie was a hit and won him praise. While he was given 'Star of the Year Award', for 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', by Stardust Awards, IIFA honored him with 'Best Villain Award'. He was last seen in a thriller - 'Mission Istanbul', based on terrorism, which turned out to be a moderate success.
