Cee-Lo Green joins the cast of new musical along Adam Levine

One big news from the musical stage has recently unveiled that the famous star Cee-Lo Green has joined the cast of a new musical drama called "Can A Song Save Your Life?" .


According to Variety, the singer will play "a very successful hip-hop star" called Troublegum in the film, which begins shooting this very week (July 2nd) in New York City. His co-stars include Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfield and Catherine Keener. Maroon 5's Adam Levine, with whom Green appears on the US version of The Voice, also has a role.


"Can A Song Save Your Life?" is the new project from Irish writer-director John Carney, who made his name with the 2006 indie drama Once. Carney is working on the music for the film with songwriter Gregg Alexander, formerly of the New Radicals.


Green - born as Thomas DeCarlo Callaway - also has a role in upcoming musical film Sparkle, which features the final screen performance from the late Whitney Houston. The film is scheduled for release next month (August) in the US and in October in the UK.


Green, known for his work with hip-hop group Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley, released his third solo album, 'The Lady Killer', in 2010. The album sold over 600,000 copies in the UK and launched the hit singles 'Fuck You' and 'It's OK'.


The hip-hop mogul is currently working on a follow-up album called Cee Lo Green... Is Everybody's Brother and has recently collaborated with Slaughterhouse for the single "My Life".
