Europe is ready for the Semi-final 1 of its singing contest Eurovision Song Contest Baku 2012

Azerbaijan, Italy and Spain will vote in this semi-final. Ten countries will be moving forward in the Saturday Final. Baku Crystal Hall will be the venue of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

Eighteen contestants battling for each others country will be taking the stage tonight in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest Baku 2012. Meanwhile, ever since UK's Engelbert Humperdinck announced he was representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest we've been waiting for the competition to heat up. Tonight it's the first semi-final and we'll find out who else is joining him and 5 others in the Final: Anggun, Nina Zilli, Sabina Babayeva, Pastora Soler and Roman Lob.


Humperdinck's not the only character to look out for, following their eighth-place finish in 2011, pop twins Jedward are once again representing Ireland.


Other artists hoping to secure one of the 10 spots available in Saturday's final, May 26th include hotly tipped acts Russian grannies Buranovskiye Babushki, Danish busker Soluna Samay, Romanian group Mandinga and Icelandic duo Greta Salome & Jonsi.

Even though the venue has an extended capacity of 23,000 people, only 16,000 people will be able to attend each show.
