Sir Paul McCartney honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

The same week when he released his album "Kisses on the Bottom", Sir Paul McCartney was celebrated on Thursday in getting his own belated star on the famous Hollywood Walk Of Fame, and he is the last of the Beatles to earn this honor. John Lennon, the first one to receive a star, posthumously got his star during a ceremony held on September 30, 1988, George Harrison got his star posthumously in 2009; and Ringo Starr got his star in 2010, meanwhile the band earned it in 1998. The former Beatle, which is now 69-year-old drew several hundred fans who packed a cordoned-off section of Vine Street outside Capitol Records for the ceremony.

He brought several Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member pals along for the ride, including Neil Young, who gave McCartney a cheery introduction, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh and pop music power couple Elvis Costello and Diana Krall. Jazz great Herbie Hancock was there as well as musician-producer Don Was and former Electric Light Orchestra leader/Traveling Wilburys member Jeff Lynne. McCartney's wife, Nancy, and son, James, also attended the ceremony.

"Way back in history, in Liverpool when we were kids and we were listening to Buddy Holly and all the rock 'n' roll greats, I would have never thought that the day would come when I'd be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame," McCartney said. "That was like an impossible thing to happen. But here we are today, and it's happening. But I couldn't have done it without, certainly, three boys -- so I want to say thanks to those guys, John, George and Ringo. ... I couldn't have done it without them, so I want to thank those guys and bless them for being in my life."

Rocker Neil Young helped introduce McCartney, saying the former Beatle was "at the top of his game".
