Watch the luxurious trailer of The Great Gatsby featuring DiCaprio and Maguire

Based on the 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, the film is due to open Dec. 25 and tells a mysterious, wealthy (and romantic) story of Jay Gatsby, played by DiCaprio.

The much-awaited trailer of Baz Luhrmann-directed romantic drama The Great Gatsby has finally arrived. The 2 and a half minute clip displays some luxurious vintage settings and focuses on Leonardo DiCaprio's complicated life as a party-giving millionaire who has an affair with Carey Mulligan, but a good friendship with Tobey Maguire.

Based on the 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, the film is due to open Dec. 25 and tells a mysterious, wealthy (and romantic) story of Jay Gatsby, played by DiCaprio. Mulligan is the object of his undying affection, Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway (Maguire) is the center character though. He is a young man from Minnesota who moves to New York in the spring of 1922 to learn about the bond business. Chasing his own American dream, Carraway lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Mulligan), and her blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).

Though set in New York's Jazz Age 1922, the film, in typical Luhrmann fashion, features modern music from Kanye West and Jay-Z, as well as Jack White. The prestigious movie was shot in Australia and cost an estimated $150 million. The same day when Great Gatsby hits theaters, DiCaprio's other drama Django Unchained opens nationwide.
